Yeah, this episode highlights the main issue I've had with this series: The characters.

First off, the main two leads AREN'T that interesting. Tomo is more or less what Takahashi performed when she voiced Anzu in Romantic Killer, a redhead heroine who knocks the crap outta people, and while I like her attempts to swoon over Jun, like Tomo-chan wearing a dress, it feels like an afterthought. Jun is a complete dope who FAILED to realize his bestie's a girl and struggles to admit his feelings, like if I were Tomo, I'd move on. Does the author NOT know about tomboys?

And then the side cast. I get what Misuzu's doing, I like her for what she is, but I feel as though you're gonna have people that'll want her burned at the stake, especially for making Carol cry. NTM imagine if her plans backfired. Carol's the one that stands out among the cast. And what sucks is the ingredients to make the characters great are there, the problem is the execution. NTM the side cast overall are what's lifting this show, namely Carol.

I dunno, I love Misuzu. Her and Carol kinda carry the show for me.

I'll admit, I've had the wrong impression of Misuzu. Like @jadJadeJade said, I tend to place myself in scenarios way more often then I really should. Which is one of the reasons why I have a controversial reputation. XD

Real talk, personally, not a big fan of the type of archetype Misuzu portrays. It can work, but it has to be done right, too little and I feel like the show WANTS me to like him/her, too much and I wanna slug them. Get my meaning?

I was too harsh on her, and after some thought, I like what they did with her, albeit, this could've backfired. Though given she made Carol cry, I wouldn't be shocked if Carol stans want her dead.

Nah, Don't worry about Having different opinions than everybody else. Cause I think it makes for a nice Conversation when people have different opinions on a matter. Sometimes It's just really nice to hear someone who has a different perspective than you. Cause I think it can really help us grow mentally, if we can try to see things from others Perspective as well.

Gundo is a pretty interesting character. She's may be a bit rude at times but she's moreso a cunning strategist. Everything she does, she does for a reason. Whether it be to set up events, provoke a reaction to get a sense of someone's character, or maintain a certain level of control over people.

If she were just a rude girl then I doubt she'd feel self conscious or remorseful for her actions like she showed in this episode with Carol, as well as a few episodes back with Tomo.

I like to see this episode or rather this duo as 'helping each other grow'

I remember back in the earlier episodes when Gundo couldn't care less about Carol. Now she feels conflicted and guilty about upsetting her. And with the episode prior, she admitted that she's grateful to Carol and values her as a friend. To me, it's just charming to see these two characters grow on each other as a pair and as individuals. I love them both.

The thing is, Carol and her mom are both very strong judges of character. They can see an act when they see it and more importantly they can read intentions extremely well. It why they were so patient and long-suffering with Misuzu.

Yeah, the trio has their own individual charm, realistically Tomo is the most approachable of the three.

Which is why Jun gets those fits anytime guys get around Tomo. She's a tomboy sure, but she's too damn approachable!

The characters is what makes this even better. Misuzu and Carol are both very unique characters who don’t follow the same pattern of being in love with the MC. They do their own thing, are open to talk about romance without exaggerating drama and misunderstandings. It’s impossible to hate even their questionable actions because of the comedic nature of the show. I do agree that the main characters could be more refreshing, but it’s a common issue in romance anime atleast for me where i dont care too much about the main ship but love the side cast and shipping.

NTM, Misuzu and Carol are the anime equivalent of Wednesday and Goody Adams respectively, which is another reason they're unique.

And with Tomo and Jun, like I mentioned to Judgement the ingredients are there, the execution is the issue.

I DO think Tomo could've worked, like for example, maybe instead of letting Carol and Misuzu pick out a dress for her, she can be like, "No I'm picking the dress I want.", showing she DOES like Jun and wants him to like her for her. And with Jun, maybe his reason is because he's afraid of what would happen should he and Tomo date, worried that the relationship they had as friends would be gone, instead of beating up a few pervs at the beach.

Make no mistake I like the show, but when it comes to shows like this, I'mma need more than a celebrity cast for me to root for your characters, know what I mean?

ngl I really don't get the appeal of nagatoro. To me atleast, Toradora was fine but not great. I prefer clannad (especially the VN sequel of Tomoyo), golden time and white album 2 over it.

I do agree that Side cast Is what's doing most of the heavy lifting. But I also like Tomo's Character. I mean we can totally see that her father raised her like a Boy but she is a Girl at Heart. So her inner Conflict is Understandable. And about Jun I think (And I am sharing what is my interpretation of the situation, I haven't read manga or something) That he at first thought that Tomo was a Boy of course. And he made that Promise related to Video game to his best friend Tomo "Who was a Guy" so unless he gets that Game back he has forced himself to see Tomo as boy and not a Girl, I Think.

I kinda prefer Anzu from Romantic Killer more. If anything because there, they actual show slapstick (from the times Anzu goes ape on Riri). You would think that we would have more gender-equality slaptsitck given our leads being enthusiasthic about having friendly matches in judo but nope. it is the classical "main female punches the male character". it only works because jun , unlike others, sometimes really deserves the punch
